"Your work - very nice - a sophisticated illustrative style in some instances, and a lovely balanced and contemplative abstraction of harmony in others. Great stuff" ...Michael Blossom
Based in Germany, Anita Niegsch is a self-taught encaustic artist. Encaustic (Enkaustik) artworks are painted on wood panels with naturally bleached high quality beeswax, natural binders and safe pigments or oil paints. Her works are abstract, classic and modern.
The history of encaustic dates back between 1st to 3rd century during the Roman occupation of Egypt. Today, the famous encaustic Egyptian Fayum or Faiyum mummy portraits can be found in important archaeological museums of the world and notable displays are also found at the British Museum in London, the Royal Museum in Scotland, the MOMA in New York, Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna (see images below 142 - 192 A.D.) and Louvre in Paris. Perhaps one of most durable medium of paintings, these encaustic artworks have shown no cracking, fading, flaking or mold and unlike other mediums. Encaustic artworks are moisture, mold and acid resistant.
